Cellulose that can be produce by bacteria are belong to the genera acetobacter, rhizobium, agrobacterium and sarcina. The most efficient producers are gram negative, and acetic acid bacteria, Acetobacter xylium has been applied as the model of microorganism for the basic and applied studies on cellulose.
Bacterial cellulose is applied in producing biopolymer synthesis, as well as on its structure and properties, which determine practical use. The most important feature of bacterial cellulose has chemical purity higher than cellulose that produce from plants, that always contain of other substance like lignin and hemicellulose. To remove contaminated cellulose from lignin and hemicellulose is difficult if propose to make a biopolymer that need cellulose material with high purity.
